Photography: A Way of Seeing
Photography: A Way of Seeing
Influenced by the thousands of conversations I have had through Ubuntu Fine Art Gallery and by Okakura Kakuzo's The Book of Tea, I have put all of the knowledge I have accumulated to date into one book.
My goal was to make this information available and accessible to anyone who may be interested, whether you use a camera or not, to help cultivate your unique Way of Seeing. This allowed me to distill my technical acumen into plain language, written so that anyone can follow it and come away with something.
Unlike many books in the saturated field of photography, this one combines five aspects into one.
-
Camera fluency and fundamentals.
-
Fine art printing fluency and fundamentals.
-
Workflows.
-
The history of the camera.
-
And a philosophical thread that runs through all of it.
If you read this book and take nothing from it but a fluency in the language of the camera and fine art printmaking, the book has done its job.
I am available for speaking engagements, artist talks, and workshops. For bulk orders from schools, libraries, and institutions, or for gift shop and retail inquiries, write to me directly at sales@ubuntufa.com.
Let's chase the light together, and be Open to whatever an Encounter may bring us.
I do not teach photography; I teach fluency and fundamentals that allow my students to become experts with their camera.
Each class is a single session, not a course. It runs as a conversational lecture, closer to the way an exchange unfolds in the gallery than to anything held in a classroom. Come once, take what the conversation gives you.
Photography: A Way of Seeing is the text for both classes, and each class comes with the digital download.
